JENGA Bricks: Building a Strong, Multi-Cultural Community

What is JENGA Bricks?

JENGA Bricks is an empowering program designed by AFiUK (African Families in the UK), with support from the Community Fund, to support young people in building their futures. Inspired by the Swahili word “Jenga,” which means “To Build,” this program emphasizes the importance of each participant as a critical “brick” in creating a strong, cohesive, and multi-cultural community.

How Does It Work?

1. Initial Assessment

The journey begins with a comprehensive Initial Assessment to understand each participant’s unique strengths, challenges, and aspirations. This assessment lays the foundation for a personalized plan that will guide their development throughout the program.

2. Individual Plan

  • Personal Development: Tailored strategies to enhance personal growth.
  • Workshop Topics: Engaging workshops focused on relevant topics, identified through the Initial Assessment.
  • Tuition & Referral Activities: Opportunities for further learning and external referrals to support participants in reaching their full potential.
  • Career & Progression Objectives: Clear goals related to academic achievements and career aspirations. 

Participants will work with mentors to record their personal, academic, and career goals. The Individual Plan also includes a roadmap for attending specific workshops and referral activities that align with their interests and objectives. 

3. Individual Learning Plan (Advanced Level)

  • Planned Training: Detailed training and support tailored to each participant’s needs. This may include specialized workshops, one-on-one mentoring, and additional resources to ensure success.
  • Additional Support Requirements: Identification and provision of any extra support needed, ensuring all participants have the tools they need to thrive

4. Employment & Progression Support

  • Employment Details: For participants who progress into employment, the program offers continued support to ensure a smooth transition. This includes providing details of the employment and any ongoing training that will aid in their career development.
  • Other Progression Paths: If employment is not the immediate next step, the program outlines alternative paths such as further education or skill development opportunities to keep participants on track toward their goals.
