AFIUK’s Collaboration with the University of Essex: Supporting Future Social Workers
At African Families in the UK (AFIUK), we are committed to shaping the next generation of social workers by providing hands-on learning experiences through our long-standing partnership with the University of Essex. Each year, we welcome social work students on placement, giving them the opportunity to engage directly with the communities we serve.
During their time at AFIUK, students gain valuable practical experience, working alongside our team to support individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. This immersive experience allows them to develop essential skills in cultural competency, advocacy, casework, and community engagement—all crucial for delivering inclusive and effective social work services.
By learning from AFIUK’s community-focused approach & Ambassador Model, students gain deeper insights into the unique challenges faced by ethnic minority families, as well as the importance of tailored support services. When they qualify, they take this knowledge forward, ensuring a more culturally responsive approach in their professional practice.
This collaboration not only strengthens the students’ skills but also reinforces AFIUK’s mission to foster an inclusive, well-equipped social care workforce that truly understands and supports diverse communities.
